the passion of a product designer
I have been designing products for 9 years now. I’ve been lucky in my career, having the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects. From powerful, rich, professional desktop products like Morae, to simple mobile apps like Grilling Time. I’ve gotten to experience a wide variety of products while also learning many differing design approaches.
You can learn more about my preferred design methodologies on my methods page.
My design philosophy is one of inclusiveness, collaboration, experimentation and measurement. I like to try as many ideas as possible, as crazy ideas often yield surprising results. I’ve spent many years honing my skills so that I can explore such ideas as rapidly as possible. And I’ve developed my skills in collaboration and design leadership in order to keep teams working smoothly and moving forward together.
I find excitement and energy in great ideas. While ideas are a dime a dozen, it takes effort to find the truly great ones. Finding the correct solution to a complex problem gives me an enormous rush. Discovering a way to take something complex and make it simple makes me jump up and down like a child. It doesn’t matter where the idea comes from or who’s idea it is. A great idea can get an entire team rallied, excited and hungry for more. That’s the rush that I live for.
Great products are much more than a work of art. They are a complex puzzle. They are a struggle. They are a challenge which continually taunts a team... until they finally find the solution. And when they do create that product, the bonds formed in the battle of product development are uniquely satisfying. Gathering with your comrades to watch people using, and loving, the product that you all bled for - that’s the moment we all work so hard for.
